A Matilda Bay Wedding Filled With Heart
Matilda Bay is one of those Perth locations that always feels timeless: soft light over the river, city skyline in the distance, and that effortless coastal calm. As a Perth documentary wedding photographer, I had the joy of capturing Tyla and Chase’s day in its most natural, unscripted form, full of love, laughter, and the kind of moments that make a wedding day truly special.
Candid Ceremony Moments by the Water
There’s something so special about saying “I do” by the Swan River. Tyla and Chase’s ceremony was heartfelt and simple, surrounded by family, sunshine, and happy tears. For a Perth documentary wedding photographer, Matilda Bay offers everything: soft light, open space, and also black swans inviting themselves to the ceremony for funny unscripted moments!
Real Emotion Through the Lens of a Perth Documentary Wedding Photographer
From proud parents to belly laughs between friends, every reaction told part of the story. These candid moments, the ones that happen between the poses, are what I love most about being a Perth documentary wedding photographer. They show the raw beauty of the day, just as it happened.
Bridal Party Fun at UWA
After the ceremony, and heartfelt congratulations, we made a quick stop at the University of Western Australia for bridal party photos and honestly, it was pure joy. The mix of elegant architecture and relaxed laughter created the perfect contrast to the coastal vibe of the ceremony. The whole group brought such great energy, and these photos captured that spontaneous, celebratory side of the day that makes every gallery feel alive. Sunglasses on, music playing, and the shots looked like they belonged on an album cover. It was stylish, spontaneous, and perfectly them.
Private Vows and Portraits at UWA | Perth Documentary Wedding Photographer
After all the fun with the bridal party, we headed for the tropical garden of UWA for something truly intimate: the couple’s private vows. Away from the crowd, Tyla and Chase shared a quiet, emotional moment together under the soft evening light. It was one of those raw, real scenes that remind me why I love being a Perth documentary wedding photographer.Once their vows were complete, we walked around the beautiful UWA gardens for their newlyweds photos.
Reception at Matilda Bay Restaurant
Back at Matilda Bay Restaurant, the courtyard was set for an elegant sit-down dinner with long tables and a timeless black-and-white aesthetic. The speeches were equal parts emotional and hilarious, and one of the standout moments was Chase’s family performing a song with guitar, such a heartfelt gesture.
Their wedding cake featured a tiny figurine of their dog, a sweet nod to their furry friend who couldn’t be there on the day. The evening flowed beautifully into their first dance and a packed dance floor, the perfect ending to a day full of love, connection, and pure joy.
Weddings like Tyla and Chase’s are why I adore being a Perth documentary wedding photographer. Every image told part of their story: the laughter, the tears, the little in-between glances. Nothing staged, nothing forced , just real, beautiful moments.
